Old Church
| Most significance fact of this church is its slanted tower (75m). Almost 2m (1.96m) slanted from the vertical. A canal passed close to the church had been redirected during the constructions to get more space, and the (part of the) foundation of the tower had been built on this soft soil. Uneven settling of this foundation believe to be the reason for this tilted shape. Now it has come to a stable condition.
Nickname is 'Old John' (Oude Jan). This is the oldest church in the city. It is a grave yard of most notable peoples'. Almost 400 people are entombed in this church. |  |
